The Story of I’M ME
AMBASSADOR OF EQUITY

I’M ME began as a simple phrase that carried a world of meaning for me.

For years, I noticed the quiet unfairness that so many people face. I knew of individuals in my community —like Dwight, a gentle man whose exceptionality came from a childhood injury—who was bullied, misunderstood, and treated unkindly for being different. Dwight ultimately lost his life trying to get away from bullies. My heart ached for him, for anyone who struggled to belong, and even for my own grandchild, who I knew would face a world that wasn’t always built with her needs in mind.

So, when the words “I’M ME” came to me, they came from that place of deep empathy.

When I shared it with Michelle, a collaborator with the organization, it resonated powerfully with her as well because of her own experience. As a mother raising a child with special needs, those differences and barriers are always prevalent. She see’s her daughter left out, denied opportunities, and overlooked for support that should be given automatic. She carries the weight of fighting for fairness in environments that speak of inclusion but rarely practice it.

So many inequities still exist — not only for people with exceptionalities and disabilities, but also for those marginalized because of their race, culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and across identities and backgrounds. Everyone deserves equity and the dignity to be themselves without apology.

I’M ME Ambassador of Equity, isn’t about one story or one situation.

It is a recognition of a universal truth that everyone deserves to be given equity, to be seen, accepted, and included —because who they are is enough.

That shared belief became the heart of I’M ME. As time went on, the message grew, and so did the vision.

That’s when “I’M ME” naturally evolved into “I’M ME Ambassador of Equity”. This evolution marked our shift from awareness to action.

We created the Ambassador of Equity initiative to:

  • Teach what equity truly means
  • Build awareness of the barriers so many people face
  • Encourage compassion, acceptance, and responsibility
  • Foster environments where everyone has a fair chance to succeed

And at its core, the message remains simple, honest, and powerful – be proud of who you are, make space for others, give equity where it is needed, and create belonging.

It’s okay to be different — because our differences are what make us unique.

I’M ME Ambassador of Equity is a reminder that kindness and fairness aren’t just words — they should be everyday actions, a responsibility, and a way of living.
